The new year is a great time for faith-based couples to set intentions—not only for their spiritual growth but also for their health and wellness. Together, meal planning and cooking can be a meaningful opportunity to deepen your relationship, fuel your bodies, and glorify God through your culinary decisions.

Here are some easy ways to prepare meals this year that combine fellowship, cuisine, and faith.

Establish Common Food Objectives Based on Wellness and Faith

Think about how you and your partner can manage your health in a way that is consistent with your beliefs. Think about these objectives:

• In order to treat your body as a temple, cut back on processed foods (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).

• Remember that food is a gift from God, not merely fuel, and exercise moderation and thankfulness.

• Make mealtimes a time to bond without being distracted by TV or phones.

Simple Meal Prep Recipes for Active Lives

It doesn't have to take a lot of time to cook at home. To make eating healthily more comfortable, try these easy meal prep tips:

• Batch Cooking: For simple mix-and-match dinners, make basic dishes like brown rice, roasted veggies, and grilled chicken in large quantities.

• Instant Pot or Slow Cooker Meals: Let these gadgets handle the cooking while you concentrate on other things.

• Pre-Chopped Ingredients: To save time during the week, purchase or prepare fruits, vegetables, and proteins in advance.

Include Gratitude, Prayer, and Devotional Time in Your Cooking

Use these concepts to turn your kitchen time into a time of worship and connection:

• Pray before you cook: Ask God to bless the food and allow it to fuel your bodies.

• Express Gratitude: As you're cooking, take turns listing your blessings.

• As you cook, let God's Word flood your home by listening to worship or a devotional podcast.

• Read a Bible Verse Together: Before you eat, choose a verse that speaks to gratitude, health, or provision.

Creating Recipes for a Healthy Body and Soul

Intentional meal planning can reflect your religion and help you make healthier choices. Here are some pointers:

• Select Foods with Biblical Significance: Foods that were popular in biblical times and have many health advantages include fish, lentils, honey, and olives.

• Maintain Meal Balance: To promote long-term wellness, choose lean proteins, grains high in fiber, and an abundance of veggies.

• Cook Together for Quality Time: By allocating responsibilities and cooperating, you may transform meal preparation into a time for camaraderie.

Grilled Fish Fillet and Vegetables

(Inspired by John 21:9, where Jesus prepared fish for his disciples.)

Ingredients:

•          2 fish fillets (tilapia, sea bass, or any available fish)

•          2 tbsp olive oil (commonly used in the Bible)

•          1 tsp salt

•          ½ tsp black pepper

•          1 tsp sesame seeds

•          1 tsp fresh lemon juice (a biblical fruit)

•          4 ounces of mixed vegetables (carrots, zucchini, bell peppers)

Instructions:

            1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.

2. Season the fish fillets with salt, pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil.

3. Place the fish on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until cooked through.

4. In a grill basket, toss the sliced vegetables with olive oil, salt, and pepper.

5. Grill the vegetables for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are tender.

6. Serve the grilled fish fillet with the vegetables, a squeeze of lemon juice and sprinkle  sesame seeds on top before serving.

Make a commitment to your faith at the beginning of the year.

In addition to improving your health, cooking and meal planning together can help you grow as a couple and as a person. Your love for God, one another, and the blessing of good health should all be reflected in your meals.
